Physiotherapy

What will happen at my first appointment?

During your first appointment, your physiotherapist will complete a holistic assessment. She’ll listen to you, your story and find out what has brought you to INSPIRE. She will most likely ask questions to determine the cause of your issue taking into account physical and emotional symptoms as well as lifestyle and environment factors.

Based on your current state and future goals, your physiotherapist will develop an individualised treatment plan to help you back to optimal wellness.  This may include manual treatment for example massage and joint mobilisation. Or it may include exercises to help retrain your body movement, basic nutritional advice or prescription of equipment to help you achieve your goal, for example, massage ball, pilates roller, theroband and more.

At the end of your first appointment, you will leave with an overview outlining what the cause of the issue is, an individualised treatment plan and the suggested timelines to achieve your goals.

Will I need to remove my clothes at my appointment?

To achieve a thorough assessment, you may be asked to remove your outer clothing by your female physiotherapist. We understand that not everyone feels comfortable with this, you can remain fully clothed during the assessment and treatment.

If you are at INSPIRE for a pelvic floor related issue, the physiotherapist will talk with you about the benefit of an internal vaginal examination to help determine any dysfunction.  You must consent to this, and if you do not give consent as you feel uncomfortable, the physiotherapist will discuss with you other options for assessment.

How long does my appointment go for?

The length of your appointment will depend on the issue we’re treating and what stage you’re at in your treatment plan.

Initial Appointments:

·      For all pelvic floor, related issues allow 50 minutes for your first appointment

·      For any muscle or joint related issue allow 40 minutes for your first appointment.
